Sylvia Rutledge
Sylvia was born in Pasadena, California, and spent most of her years of
employment on the West Coast. She moved to Iowa in 1987 and to Coffeyville,
Kansas, in 2004.
Her interest in Kansas Authors Club came about through an invitation from Ursula Turner. A niece had requested Sylvia to record the "family stories," saying, "Aunt Sylv, you’re the only one left alive who remembers the family stories and I don’t want them lost." Sylvia realized that KAC would be a helpful learning experience to complete this first project. It is not yet finished, even though the text now exceeds well over 100 single-spaced pages. She hopes to have this completed and circulated before the end of the year.
In addition to family history, she has begun to write short articles which she hopes to submit to such publications as "Reminisce" and "Kansas Seniors." Next on the list will be children’s stories based on her son and daughter-in-law’s Chihuahua, Spunky.
She also does illustrations for book covers for other members and continues to indulge in her artistic ability as a hobby.
Said Sylvia, "It’s wonderful to be retired and have the opportunity to write and paint for pleasure. I thoroughly enjoy KAC and the association with its members."
